Notes & Flavors
The summer of 2017 was warm and dry, leading to excellent flavor development in the fruit, but Pike Road thinned the crop considerably to ensure concentration and ripeness. Harvest was staggered because of the October rains, which meant long days for their crew during the windows of sun. 2017 wasn’t an easy year to farm, but the fresh, fully developed flavors of the vintage make it worth the hard work.
92 Points, James Suckling
“There’s a lot of attractive ripe red cherries on offer here with an upbeat feel. The tannins arrive all sleek and succulent and carry plenty of fresh, approachable red cherries. Direct enjoyment. Good value.”
90 Points, Wine Enthusiast
“Pike Road blends purchased grapes from top vineyards such as Shea, Zenith and Temperance Hill, produced under the watchful eye of Elk Cove's Adam Campbell. A terrific value, this supple young wine incorporates blackberry, black cherry, black tea and dark chocolate elements, nicely wrapped up with smooth, ripe tannins.”
