About Us
We believe everybody deserves to be happy. Our job is rather simple; it is to make our customers’ days just a little better. Other than our families, fine wine is the single most important thing to us. This passion is what drives us to have a diverse, interesting, and deep selection.
Wine Philosophy
Our wine department is near and dear to our hearts. Our staff is wildly passionate about fine wine, wine regions, and the wine business. We believe in representing interesting, small, family owned wineries. We believe in authentic and natural wines. While we are going to carry the wines we find exciting, we also are dedicated to stocking wineries and vintages that receive the current critical acclaim, i.e. the wines that matter today. We are going to find the small properties that are under the radar as well as the big releases from California, France, and Italy.
To the best of our abilities, the fine wines represented on our website are what we actually carry. We do not believe in selling “ghost inventory.” We want to have the wines, in stock, which we say we do. It just makes too much sense to do otherwise.
Our staff of wine specialists has strong opinions as we have all developed our passion and palates with a combined 100 plus years in the wine business. We know drinking and appreciating wines is a very personal experience which is why the staff may not always agree on a particular wine. Our commitment to trusting each other's palates has allowed us to develop our deep and intriguing inventory. Being different and liking different wines is an important aspect to the wine business. It is what allows us to offer so many different wines and styles. We are not here to tell you what to like or what to drink. We are here to help customers by having what they want. We are here to help them develop interests in new wine regions. We are here to educate.
One of the trickiest aspects of running our wine business is how to handle professional press and ‘points’. For years, our wine specialists have resisted the urge to sell based on points and to sell based on a personal understanding of our customer’s palates and the wines we stock. Today, our wine room typically does not use points and/or winery marketing materials. On occasion will do use professional scores, but if and only if, the written review is included. The words are what really matter. A simple ‘points score’ does not describe the style nor the taste. We believe that is what matters. We do use points on our website because, in this day and age, customers expect to see them when possible. Professional reviews have become an important component of the wine buying decision. We respect that. When at all possible, we will provide the tasting notes associated with the review. Costumers expect us to know the fine wines we carry and, at times, that includes professional critique.
Malt Philosophy
Our philosophy for our single malt department is simple: find and offer the best of what is available. We stock a large selection (300+ malts) of everyday, collectable, and high desirable single malts and bourbons. We search out the new releases and always strive to offer highly competitive pricing. If you don’t see what you are looking for, call us!
